Self- assembling cyclic D,L-PNTs are electronically insulating, as are most biomaterials derived from natural amino acids. It has been proposed that the cyclic D,L-PNTs should possess wide band gaps (E g > 4 eV) that could potentially be tuned through appropriate modification of the cyclic peptide. 26 However, the natural amino acid side chains are not sufficient to create electronically conductive assemblies.
