Answer
• HUS is a disease of younger children presenting with acute kidney injury
• Classic triad
– Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia (anemia can be very severe & transfusions are freq needed)
– Thrombocytopenia (severe w/ very low counts - risk of bleeding)
– Acute Kidney Injury (variable severity from abn urinalysis alone to oligoanuria)
• One of the main causes of acute kidney injury in children <3 years of age
