Prerequisites for application of vacuum extractor or forceps:
• Vertex presentation
• Vertex engaged
• Term or near term fetus
• Cervix fully dilated
• Membranes ruptured
• Adequate anesthesia
• Adequate maternal pelvis by clinical assessment
• Maternal bladder empty
• Backup plan (if forceps or vacuum not successful may need CS)
