A decrease in levels of ACh is implicated in Alzheimer dementia and Huntington disease, whereas Parkinson disease is associated with a relative increase in ACh. Like histamine receptors, muscarinic receptors are subject to off-target blockade by antipsychotics and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), resulting in dry mouth, blurred vision, and urinary hesitancy.
