In immunocompromised individuals, particularly transplant recipients, the most important clinical use of CMV serology is in the assessment of risk and suscep- tibility after transplantation. Speciﬁcally, CMV serology is useful in assessing prior CMV exposure during the pretransplant evaluation of transplant candidates (and their donors) in order to determine the risk of either pri- mary or reactivation CMV infection after transplantation.
