#epidemiology
If we start with a group of people who are 40 years old, on the average they are likely to survive to an older age than the typical person who was just born. Why? Because they have a 40-year head start; if they had died before age 40, they could not have been part of a group in which everyone is 40 years old.
What bias is this referring to? (Immortal time bias)
