The last 60 years have seen significant changes — educational. medical and social - in the lives of people With Down syndrome.
In parallel with these changes has been the increase in life expectancy, from 12 years in 1929 to approaching 60. Longevity too has risen, with people over the age of 60 now not exceptional.
