While new tariffs and optimization by HEMS devices can avoid some of the problems associ- ated with legacy systems (e.g. by allowing more top-up heat during the day), unless additional storage is installed, they will be limited by the amount of pre- heating that can be achieved without undue impact on consumers’ thermal comfort, as found here.
